A new blog introducing our fabulous team. First in the spotlight is Richard Sharp, our Business Development Manager, this man is passionate about food and drink, so let’s talk more!

What is your job at Breckenholme and how long have you been with the team?
My fancy title is Business Development Manager but I’m mainly in charge of sales for the two brands, Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil and Charlie & Ivy’s. The team absorbed me just over 3 years ago.

How did you start your journey in Food/what is your background?
I had a massive life change when I opened a small cheese shop/deli in Selby, after working the Direct Mail industry for 20 years. I have a love of food and eating, and it all just makes sense.

What do you love about working in the Food and Drink Industry?
The main thing is the Food and Drink! Food is a mood changer and it’s amazing the feel good factor you can get from good food. When I think, “What’s for tea?” it can really lift my day! The people are also great, as we all have the same passion.

Where do you see the indie food scene going over the next year?
I would hope that after so many lockdowns and changes in lifestyle that more and more people would be enjoying cooking. More people have turned to online sources out of necessity, but I personally think this will return back to retail outlets for a large portion of the population. I do think that the online peak seasons (Christmas, Father’s Day, etc.) will still be bigger though.

If you didn’t do this job, what would you be doing?
I’d most likely be playing more drums or something to do with cars! I often wish I had taken drama at school as I reckon I’d be on the telly by now, most likely “innocent bystander number 2”, on The Bill or something!
